Vipstech and Tsinghua University officially launch joint research project in Shenzhen

On January 17, at the “Future in Wisdom, Win-Win in Symbiosis — 2026 AI Empowering Industry Academic Forum,” a joint research project initiated by Shenzhen Vipstech Co., Ltd. and Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School was officially launched in Shenzhen. The project, titled “Research on Intelligent Path Planning, Obstacle Avoidance and Recovery for Autonomous Mobile Robots in Multi-Scenario Environments,” was launched in the presence of representatives from both academia and industry, including Professor Qi Mingyao, Associate Professor Yang Peng and Dr. Liang Jinxiang from Tsinghua University, as well as Wen Bijian, Chairman of Vipstech, and Liu Qinghai, General Manager of Vipstech. The launch marks a substantive new phase in industry-academia-research collaboration between the two sides in artificial intelligence and autonomous mobile robotics.

According to the project plan, the joint research will focus on systematic study of core technical bottlenecks faced by autonomous mobile robots in complex and changing environments. Using intelligent robotic lawn mowers and other terminal devices provided by Vipstech as validation and application platforms, the project will concentrate on three major technical directions: efficient path planning and global-local collaborative decision-making for autonomous mobile robots; real-time obstacle avoidance and escape algorithms under complex dynamic scenarios; and coordinated software-hardware integration and engineering optimization for industrial deployment. The resulting technologies will be validated and promoted across diverse application scenarios including smart home, smart logistics, outdoor service robots and unmanned systems.

Tsinghua University has long maintained deep academic strength in artificial intelligence, robot motion planning and control. The launch of this joint research project is an important practice in coupling frontier algorithm research with real industrial scenarios. Leveraging Tsinghua’s research advantages in fundamental theory, algorithm models and system architecture, the project will jointly tackle the critical challenge of integrating robot perception, decision-making and control. It aims to deliver replicable and scalable achievements in core algorithms and system capabilities, while also cultivating interdisciplinary talent with both engineering practice and system innovation capabilities.

As a key industrialization partner in the project, Vipstech and its subsidiary Himedia have long focused on intelligent terminals and embedded hardware, building a complete industrial system covering R&D, design, manufacturing and supply chain management. In response to the accelerating convergence of AI and robotics, the company has continued to increase strategic investment in intelligentization and algorithm capabilities. This collaboration with Tsinghua University reflects the company’s intention to use a project-based cooperation model built around real products, real scenarios and joint R&D to accelerate the transformation of original technological achievements into scalable products and solutions, while strengthening its core technological barriers and long-term competitiveness in autonomous mobile robotics.

This cooperation is also another practical example of Shenzhen’s continued effort to promote coordinated innovation across industry, academia, research and application, while reinforcing its advantages in artificial intelligence and intelligent manufacturing. Through deep collaboration between university research resources and enterprise engineering capabilities, the project is expected to connect the full chain from basic research and technological breakthroughs to product incubation and commercial application. It will not only inject new momentum into Vipstech’s sustained innovation and high-quality development, but also offer a demonstrative “Shenzhen pathway” for independent control of key autonomous mobile robotics technologies and industrial upgrading in China.
