Amazon Fling Help You Share Media With Fire TV
Amazon Fling to an existing iOS or Android app will result in a Fling icon being available in-app. Tapping the icon will cause the phone or tablet’s content to appear on the television via the Amazon’s streaming stick and set-top box. Controlling that content on the TV can be done through the mobile device or using the Amazon Fire TV remote.
Actually, Fire TV users can already cast videos from Netflix and YouTube. But this uses a standard called DIAL that has not been widely supported by other apps. Fling is Amazon’s attempt to take matters into its own hands, with its own developer toolkit.
The Amazon Fling SDK was introduced, and with it developers can design their apps to "fling" videos, images, and audio from their smartphone to their television. The functionality can be added to existing Android and iOS apps. On the user's end of things, flinging content is as simple as tapping a button.
However, app support for Fling is limited. Amazon points to a couple examples, one of which is a karaoke app, while the other is an app for personalized Internet radio. By comparison, Google has hundreds of Cast-ready apps that work with both Chromecast and Android TV devices, including such heavyweights as HBO Go, WatchESPN, Comedy Central, and PBS.
